We are very good at operations. We keep things simple, clear, and useful — like a well-labeled spice rack, but for grown-up business problems.
Elowen Advisory helps growing companies find the right fractional operational leadership for the stage they are actually in.
Not the stage the org chart says they should be in.
Not the role somebody on LinkedIn said every $5M company absolutely must hire.
The actual business. The actual work. The actual need.
Before Elowen was a firm, Kristin was doing the work herself.
She spent years inside founder-led businesses as an Online Business Manager, operations consultant, and fractional Chief of Staff—building systems, running teams, managing priorities, fixing the things that had somehow become “just how we do it,” and generally making companies easier to operate.
Eventually clients started asking a particular question:
“Do you know anyone else who works like you?”
At first, the answer was a referral.
Then another referral.
Then another.
And at some point it became fairly obvious that the harder part was not finding smart people.
There are plenty of smart people.
The harder part is knowing what kind of operator a business actually needs, whether someone can truly do the work, and whether they will work well with the humans already inside it.
That became Elowen.
Where Elowen came fromWe are picky. On purpose.
Two people can have nearly identical résumés and be completely different fits for the same company.
One thrives in ambiguity and moves quickly with very little direction.
Another is brilliant in a more structured environment with thoughtful planning and clear communication.
Neither is better.
Put the wrong one with the wrong founder, however, and you can turn two highly competent adults into one extremely irritating working relationship.
So we look beyond titles and years of experience.
We care about judgment. Communication. Ownership. Follow-through. Working style. How someone responds when the plan that looked excellent on Monday has become irrelevant by Wednesday.
The things that actually matter once they are inside your company.
Our general philosophy
The work comes before the title.
We do not start with “you need a COO” and work backward until the scope vaguely supports the conclusion.
We figure out what needs to be owned first.
High standards do not require a lot of ceremony.
Our operators go through a real vetting process.
We simply do not believe adding twelve unnecessary steps makes it twelve times more rigorous.
Ownership beats task collection.
A strong operator should remove a category of responsibility from the founder.
Not simply inherit a longer to-do list.
Fit matters.
Experience matters. So does how people communicate, make decisions, handle uncertainty, and work with leadership.
We will tell you what we think.
Including when the role should be smaller, different, or not hired at all.
There are easier ways to maximize a placement fee.
We are okay with that.
Our name is attached to the introduction
Every Elowen placement includes a defined role, a curated shortlist, direct candidate interviews, structured onboarding, and check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days.
If the original match is not right, we re-match at no additional placement fee.
We stay involved because matching is not finished when everybody signs the contract.
That is when we get to find out whether we were right.
Whether you are hiring your first real operations person or bringing senior leadership into a growing company, we will help figure out what the business needs now.
Even when the answer is different from the title you arrived with.
